The West Michigan Potters Guild is an educational organization whose purpose is to promote fine quality, handmade ceramics in Southwest Michigan. The West Michigan Potters Guild Fall Show and Sale helps support independent, local artists as well as provide funding for sponsored educational workshops. The Guild has also participated in community service activities, including the Empty Bowl Project which provides funds to God’s Kitchens in Grand Rapids.
Currently there are over 50 members of the West Michigan Potters Guild. Membership includes potters of all levels: professional studio artists, teachers and students. Several sell their work through galleries across the U.S. while others maintain a presence in juried art fairs.
All members are welcome participants at the Guild events and all benefit from individuals willing to share their:
skills, talents, ideas and mutual goals.
The West Michigan Potters Guild has been a valuable resource in the West Michigan arts community for the last three decades. Begun in 1983 by a small group of potters who felt the isolation of working individually in their studios, the group established a vehicle for discussion of problems, development of interest in various ceramic processes and celebration of the successes of members.
All this was aimed at the mutual improvement of ceramic skills and aesthetics for the members while educating the community at large. Their two exhibits are professionally organized and much anticipated by a loyal customer base.
The Guild sponsors and organizes 2 sales each year:
Fall Show, this year on November 5 & 6 and Spring Show scheduled for April 30, 2022 also held at the Cultural Center at St. Nicholas.
